Letting Fashion Inspire Decor: A Glimpse Into Your Closet

Our personal style is a reflection of who we are - our tastes, our experiences, and the way we move through the world. Just as fashion is an expression of individuality, so too is interior design. At Kimberly Rider Interiors, we believe that the pieces you gravitate toward in your wardrobe can serve as a blueprint for how you curate your living space.

Translating Personal Style into Home Design

Whether you love bold patterns, classic silhouettes, or minimalist neutrals, your wardrobe offers valuable insight into your design preferences. The textures, colors, and structures you choose to wear every day can easily translate into the furnishings, materials, and decor that make your home feel uniquely yours.

Statement Pieces: Fashion’s Influence on Decor

A single standout piece in a wardrobe - whether it’s a tailored blazer, a vintage leather bag, or an intricate silk scarf - often sets the tone for an entire outfit.

Similarly, in interior design, a bold sofa, a sculptural light fixture, or a patterned rug can become the defining element of a space. During our onboarding process, we encourage clients to look at their favorite fashion pieces as inspiration for key design elements in their homes.

Textured interior design

Textures and Layers: Creating Depth in Design

Fashion thrives on layering - mixing textures like soft cashmere, structured denim, and flowing silk to create a balanced look. The same principle applies to interior design.

Combining smooth stone surfaces with plush upholstery, natural wood finishes, and metal accents can bring richness and depth to a space. Much like assembling an outfit, the art of layering in design is about creating harmony while allowing for contrast and personality. You may hear of the lighting in a space being referred to as “the jewelry of the home”. This is such a great way to consider layering when planning your interior design project: start with a sound, functional foundation and add layers of color, texture and ornament.

Vibrant interior design

Color Palettes: From Wardrobe to Walls

Many people instinctively gravitate toward a specific color palette in their clothing. Whether you prefer a neutral scheme of whites and beiges or a vibrant mix of jewel tones, your wardrobe can inform your home’s color story. For example, if your closet is filled with warm earth tones, incorporating terracotta, deep greens, and muted golds into your decor can create a seamless flow between your personal style and living space.

It is common for my clients to not pay much attention to their color preferences or think they don’t have strong feelings about color. That is, until we begin the discussion of colors that people really DON’T like, then we can begin fine tuning the preferences… be they tonal and muted, bright and pure, contrasted or subtle.

Bringing It All Together

Your home should feel as effortlessly stylish as your favorite outfit. By taking cues from your wardrobe, we create interiors that reflect your personality, lifestyle, and aesthetic preferences. Whether through color, texture, or statement pieces, the bridge between fashion and design is closer than you think.
